Learn at your own pace
Your host sets up the table and teaches the way a good friend would: patient, hands-on, unhurried. You'll learn the tiles, play real hands, and by the end you'll already be thinking about the next afternoon. Total beginners are not just welcome — they're who we teach best.

Every lesson comes with the full kit — tiles, mats, racks, tile grabbers, the official card and a beginner guide to keep — and a host who teaches hands-on the whole way through. For a lesson at home, you set out a table, some chairs, and the people you'd like to learn with; at a public open session, everything's set and you simply join.

You don’t need to know
a single thing
Genuinely. Please don't watch a video or study the rules beforehand — it tends to make the first lesson harder, not easier. Come empty-handed and curious. Your host introduces everything at the table, in context, and gently redirects any move that isn't quite right. There's no embarrassment, because there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Everyone's learning.
No rulebook, no quiz
We don't hand you a laminated card to memorize. You learn in the flow of a real game, in context, as it comes up.
Everyone was new once
Most people we teach have never touched a tile. You'll have plenty of company in not knowing — and a host who's seen every first hand.

We introduce the tiles as we deal, so you're playing fast. By the end, most people can't believe how quickly it clicked.

Do I need any experience?
None at all. Most of the people we teach have never touched a tile. Please don’t study beforehand — come curious and we’ll have you playing real hands within the hour.
What lesson formats do you offer?
Three. A private lesson (1–2 players) and a group lesson (4–8) both happen in your own home — we come to you and bring the whole table. A public open session is a scheduled open lesson you can join without hosting, held at a venue near Backcountry — perfect if you’d rather not host, or you’re new in town and want to meet other players.

If you’d rather not host, you can join a public open session at a venue near the Backcountry neighborhood (we share the exact spot by email). Either way, we teach across South Denver: Highlands Ranch, Castle Pines, Lone Tree, Parker, Greenwood Village, Cherry Hills, Centennial and Littleton.
What do I need to provide?
For a lesson in your home, just a table big enough for everyone to sit around, some chairs, and your people — we bring everything else: the tiles, mats, racks, tile grabbers, the American mahjong card and a beginner guide. At a public open session there’s nothing to bring; just turn up.

At the lesson — cash, check, Venmo or Zelle. There’s nothing to pay up front to book your date.
